Interventions

What is an Intervention?

An intervention is a carefully planned and structured meeting convened by concerned loved ones, friends, and sometimes a professional interventionist, with the goal of confronting an individual struggling with addiction and encouraging them to seek treatment. It typically involves expressing love, concern, and support for the individual while outlining the impact of their addiction on themselves and others. The intervention team collaborates to convey a unified message of hope, urging the individual to recognize the severity of their addiction and accept help to embark on the path to recovery. Through compassionate communication and clear boundaries, interventions aim to break through denial, spark motivation for change, and facilitate the individual's willingness to enter treatment.

Having a professional interventionist guide the intervention process is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, interventionists bring expertise, objectivity, and experience to the table, ensuring that the intervention is conducted in a safe, respectful, and effective manner. They help the intervention team prepare and rehearse their messages, anticipate potential challenges or objections, and develop a strategy to address them. Additionally, interventionists provide emotional support and guidance to both the individual struggling with addiction and their loved ones, helping to diffuse tension, manage expectations, and foster a constructive dialogue conducive to positive outcomes. Their presence helps to maintain focus, structure, and momentum throughout the intervention, increasing the likelihood of the individual accepting help and transitioning into treatment successfully.

Meet
Craig Fluter

I have worked in the field of addiction for the past 18 years and personally know how most addictions have painful consequences. I can relate to and understand the pain and frustration that family members and friends experience when a loved one is struggling with addiction. Helping addicts and their families heal from the dysfunction that the disease of addiction creates is my passion.

I am a trained interventionist and have done hundreds of successful interventions all across Canada. I am trained to work with youth and adults. I have developed expertise in substance abuse, interventions, family counselling, codependency, trauma and grief counselling.

I offer individual and group counselling. This offers individuals a place to discover their authentic selves where they can begin to discover their strengths. This gives families and individuals a chance to heal from the trauma of addiction.

I live in Vancouver, North Shore, but I travel all over Canada for interventions. I have a college degree as an Addiction and Family Counsellor.

I have worked full-time in addiction for the past 18 years as an Interventionist and Clinical Care Counsellor. I work hand in hand with the most prominent men’s treatment center in Canada. In addition, I am the Director of West Coast Interventions and Addiction Services, Fraser Valley Detox and Treatment Call Center Helpline, and Sea the Sky Addiction Services.

My approach is nonjudgmental. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life. Helping families and individuals heal from addiction keeps me passionate about leading them to the solution.

I look forward to meeting you and, hopefully, helping you and/or your loved ones on your journey into recovery.
